Thanks to Casey's Pond!

Casey’s Pond is known for their exceptional care for seniors in Routt County, but did you know they are currently hosting a Retirement Planning Speaker Series for savvy, forward-thinking people who want to make the most out of their benefits and their lives?

Swan Law had the opportunity to present at this lunch and learn event last Wednesday , August 17, and we want to take this opportunity to thank Lindsey Simbeye and Kari Kalar who were our gracious and helpful organizers for the event!  We had a crowded room, and we hope that everyone learned something new.

We discussed the importance of having medical documents such as a Living Will, a Health Care Power of Attorney, and a HIPAA Authorization form that are accessible to your family members if you were to have an accident and become incapacitated.  We also discussed the benefits of creating a Trust for loved ones who might benefit from additional assistance managing their inheritance, and how to set a plan in place so your wishes for future generations are ensured.

Too many people are quiet about the issues that we face at the end of life.  The scenarios we presented hit close to home for many, who shared their personal experiences with loved ones whom they witnessed struggling in various aspects and stages of the presentation.  Estate planning is a priority for retirement because this period of life is complex for so many people.

During early retirement, you may have children who are no longer minors but not yet financially independent; you may be caring for aging parents; you may own properties in multiple states that would subject your estate to multiple probates.  Being prepared is preventative medicine, and while it may be uncomfortable to think about, your loved ones would be grateful to see how you had provided for them if something happened to you.

We are looking forward to attending other presentations in the Retirement Planning Speaker Series, which will focus on Veterans Benefits, Casey’s Pond Life Care Plan, and Long-term Care Insurance.  We are fortunate to have programs such as this in our community, and I encourage you to capitalize on this fortuitous opportunity!

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Casey’s Pond for going beyond to bring valuable education to the community, and to the community that is so receptive to this important information.  If you’re planning ahead–way to go!  You are making life easier for your loved ones and showing them how much you care.
