During March in Steamboat Springs, we celebrate Agriculture Appreciation Week. Unlike many ski towns, our heritage is primarily agricultural, and we have a long history of farmers in the Yampa Valley.
It prompted us to think about what legacy really means for so many people: meaningful contribution to the world through work. Ranchers and farmers know this experience firsthand, as raising livestock and crops is a difficult yet rewarding profession.
As the meaning of “career” and “work” change in our diversified, specialized economy, it’ll be important to capture what it was like in your own time to have a profession and make a contribution. What do you hope for your kids or your grandkids?
